Addressing Scotland’s Drug Crisis

With a keynote address from Angela Constance MSP, Minister for Drugs Policy at the Scottish Government

For the 7th year running, Scotland has recorded the highest drug death rate in Europe.

Within a UK context, Scotland’s drug death rate is more than 3.5 times higher than that of England and Wales.

Urgent action is needed to tackle this public health emergency.

So, what steps can be taken immediately using devolved powers to end the crisis? Following the appointment of a dedicated Minister for Drugs Policy in December 2020 and publication of new Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Standards for Scotland in May 2021, this event will provide delegates with a chance to reflect on where we are, and consider what more needs to be done to improve prevention, intervention, and access to treatment and harm reduction services.

It will bring together stakeholders working in sectors such as health, justice and education who regularly engage with people at risk of, or experiencing, problematic drug use.
