Winners announced!

Holyrood’s Climate Action Awards, presented by Dougie Vipond, celebrated the best within Scotland’s climate change movement this November.

In it’s third year, the awards ceremony took place on the first evening of the 2023 Climate Action Summit in central Edinburgh. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about, and celebrate, the achievements of some of the key individuals and organisations who are contributing to our net-zero journey.

Dr. Richard Dixon

Youth Champion Award

This award focuses on the work of both individual and groups of young people in galvanizing the climate change movement in Scotland. This award will recognise and promote young people who have made a significant contribution to climate justice and to the inclusion of climate justice in education.

Technology and Innovation Award

This award recognises an individual, team or organisation that has demonstrated outstanding work in the field of climate technology. The nominees have all utilised technology to deliver services in ways that improve sustainability and reduce emissions or develop potential solutions to the effects of the climate emergency.

Nature and the Environment Award
in association with Autonomous iOt

This award is for the incredible work being done by groups or organisations to protect and enhance Scotland's nature capital and biodiversity.

Climate Community Award

This award recognises a particular climate town, village, community or place for the efforts they have made to tackle climate change.

Circular Champion Award
in association with Zero Waste Scotland

This award focuses on an initative of a business, individual or community that involved implementing circular economy principles into their operations. The judges will expect to see case studies of initiatives to demonstrate positive impact.

Seas and Coasts Award

As we aim to do more to protect our seas, six times the size of our land mass in Scotland, this award is designated to the pioneering and innovative work under the broad umbrella of the 'blue economy'. This includes cleaning up our seas, protecting marine biodiversity, adapting our coasts to be sustainable against the effects of climate change already happening, or helping us reach net zero.

Lifetime Achievement Award
in association with Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises and promotes an individual who has made a significant contribution to further the cause of tackling climate change and the restoration of our natural environment over a sustained period of time.

Dougie Vipond

Presenter and live event host Dougie Vipond has fronted sport, travel and rural affairs programmes on television and radio. He has presented a range of sporting events, including Scottish Cup Finals, International Rugby, Melrose 7s, World Championship Mountain Biking, Three Day Eventing and Bowls World Championship. He can also be seen covering Scotland's sport news output on Sportscene and Reporting Scotland. He also works as a reporter on Radio Scotland's nightly football magazine, 90 Minutes.

He also presents BBC Scotland's The Adventure Show and the rural affairs series, Landward. He has also been a presenter on BBC1's The Holiday Show, among others, and even stood in for Richard Madeley on ITV's This Morning.

His love of sport an getting his hands dirty resulted in BBC Scotland commissioning an adventure sports series called Backcountry with Dougie Vipond, in which Dougie presented and took part in a variety of outdoor sports and competitions.

In a past life, Dougie was a founder member and drummer with the band Deacon Blue with whom he recorded and toured for eight years. He still plays with the band when commitments allow.

Over the years, Dougie has worked across many broadcast genres, including six years reporting for BBC's Holiday, Summer Holiday and Holidays Out programmes. He co-presented The Kirsty Wark Show and The Big Country, BBC Scotland's guide to leisure activities north of the border and spent two weeks as a guest presenter on ITV's This Morning.

In addition to his work at the BBC, Dougie has presented live coverage of the World Bowls Championship for Eurosport.

His expertise in music has helped when presenting The Score for Channel 4, Och Around The Clock, a history of Jock n Roll and T in the Park for BBC Scotland. 

Even though much of his time is taken up with sports programmes these days, Dougie still finds time to branch out into other areas. He completed a second series of Take It From The Top, a features series for Radio Scotland.
