Bruce Adamson

Bruce Adamson is the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland responsible for promoting and safeguarding the rights of children and young people across Scotland. Working closely with children and young people Bruce has helped secure legislative change in relation to the age of criminal responsibility, comprehensive protection for children from physical punishment, and the Bill on the incorporation of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child into Scots law. He was the co-chair of the rights group of the Independent Care Review. Bruce is a lawyer who practiced as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand before moving to the UK and qualifying as a solicitor in both England and Wales, and Scotland. He was a member of Scotland’s children’s panel for 13 years and has over 20 years of experience in human rights. Bruce has acted as an international expert for a wide range of international institutions including the United Nations, Council of Europe, European Union, OSCE and the WHO. Bruce was previously the Chair of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children and remains on the Bureau.
