After completing a PhD at the University of Glasgow, Rachel has held a variety of roles in public health locally and nationally over the last 15 years. This has had a particular focus on health improvement and health inequalities. Rachel has worked across a wide range of health improvement policy areas, including the wider determinants, e.g. poverty prevention, economy and education; and health behaviours policy, such as sexual health and alcohol harm. Her roles have included service delivery, research and strategic roles, working across different parts of the system, from the third sector, local and national NHS Boards, and within Scottish Government. Her current role within Public Health Scotland focuses on key building blocks of health, tackling poverty and income inequality and supporting healthier economic policy.
