Gordon McGuinness

Gordon was appointed as Director, Industry and Enterprise Networks of Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in 2015. Gordon’s directorate includes the Growth and Inward Investment team and the Evaluation and Research team. Gordon collaborates with the Enterprise Agencies, Business Gateway, and other public sector partners through the Business Support Partnership, to improve the customer journey.

His role is varied, ranging from support of the new National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland, to identifying solutions to address emerging skills shortages or major redundancy responses, such as the Michelin Action Group in Dundee. Gordon is currently the Senior Responsible Officer for one of the Enterprise and Skills Strategic Board’s Missions – Workplace Innovation and Innovative Business Models – which is seeking to create an inter-agency approach to help organisations transform their approach to workforce development.

Gordon’s career started in the Civil Service at The National Savings Bank in Glasgow. Prior to joining SDS, Gordon had 18 years of experience with Scottish Enterprise where he undertook a broad range of operational roles from skills and employability to inward investment support and the development of urban regeneration companies.

Gordon was the Chair of the Board of Management at Reid Kerr College in Paisley prior to its merger into West College Scotland. He is currently on the Board of Glasgow Clyde College where he chairs the Learning and Teaching Committee and has several other governance roles with charitable bodies involved in community energy and support for carers.
