Matthew Rice

Matthew Rice is a Principal Policy Adviser in the Information Commissioner’s Office. His role involves leading engagement with Big Tech firms on strategic issues of data protection compliance. Previously Matthew lead the ICO’s work in DCMS’ Safety Tech Challenge Fund, providing advice to firms developing innovative safety technologies ensuring that proposals were compliant with data protection law.

Before joining the ICO Matthew was the Scotland Director for Open Rights Group, a digital rights campaigning organisation. He lead the organisation’s work in Scotland including contributions to Defamation reform, Police Scotland’s use of forensic equipment and the creation of Scotland’s Biometrics Commissioner.
