A successful energy and industrial transition can deliver the economic growth needed, and Scotland is at the heart of that. Reaching net zero by 2050 will require changes to every industry, region, and part of society but we must choose to do this by building on our world-leading energy industrial heritage and skilled workforce. This panel will explore the policies, partnerships, and investment needed to ensure we deliver decarbonisation not deindustrialisation, creating growth opportunities across the country and a just transition for workers and communities.

The deputy first minister reflects on politics, family, the economy and her plans for the future in a relaxed ‘in conversation’ with Holyrood Magazine’s editor following her announcement to not stand for election in 2026.

This year’s Holyrood Health Hub will focus on establishing the steps that need to be taken to create a sustainable, forward-thinking health and care sector in Scotland. Bringing together representatives from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE), the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), we will explore how we can support the workforce and create a sustainable health and care system through strategies like prioritised preventative and community-focused care.

This panel discussion will explore the skills Scotland’s workforce needs to thrive in the years ahead. Speakers will consider how to address existing skills gaps, support lifelong learning, and equip people to drive both economic growth and social progress. The event will highlight practical steps that can strengthen Scotland’s capacity to meet future economic and social challenges.
