On 3rd May 1999, just three days before the polls opened for the first elections to the Scottish Parliament, the first issue of Holyrood magazine was published.
Nearly a quarter of a century later, we are incredibly proud to be celebrating the publication of our 500th issue and our continuing role at the centre of Scottish politics.
Our souvenir issue, ‘Holyrood500’, was published at the end of January 2023, accompanied by a special ‘Caledonia Companion’ featuring essays from well prominent Scots from across business, the arts, industry, law, and civic Scotland on what Scotland and Scottishness mean to them.
To mark this historic achievement, we celebrated with a drinks reception on 7th March 2023 at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, with attendees from across the Scottish and UK parliaments, the wider political and policy spectrum, including senior civil servants, civic Scotland, and all those characters who have helped shape Holyrood magazine into the publication it is today.
Attendees were invited to enjoy our exhibition featuring photography and art from our insider’s view of the journey of devolution, and to listen in to an informal ‘in conversation with the editor’ between high-profile politicians.
