Anas was elected as an MSP for Glasgow in 2016 and currently serves as Scottish Labour’s party spokesman for Constitutional Affairs and Brexit. Having previously been Deputy Leader for Scottish Labour, he is running for party Leader in 2021.
Anas established the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Tackling Islamophobia in 2018, highlighting the racism he had faced. The group works to eradicate prejudice, hatred and bigotry. He has also served on the House of Commons International Development Committee and as co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption.
He founded Glasgow Cares in 2015 and continues to work for charitable causes on a voluntary basis.
