Dr Cade Wells is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the research and development of embedded systems. He holds an Engineering Doctorate in System Level Integration jointly awarded by the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde. He also holds an MEng in Computer System Engineering from Bangor University, Wales. Cade joined CENSIS in 2017 to lead activities in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) Cyber Security. Recently he led the CENSIS team in delivering the IoT Cyber Challenge Programme, supported by Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish government. The programme’s series of activities engaged academia, private sector and public sector organisations to explore current cyber security challenges, raise awareness and find potential solutions. He is currently a member of several Scottish, wider UK and European advisory panels focussed on cyber security matters relating to cyber-physical systems and their applications. Before joining CENSIS, Cade founded and ran an engineering consultancy providing technical and business services to organisations developing electronic products. As part of his professional practice he has undertaken forensic engineering investigations of electrical and electronic systems thought to be the cause of or involved in incidences of fire, explosions, IP theft and personal injury.
