Cllr. Kristopher Leask

Growing up in Orkney, I then attended the University of St Andrews to study International Relations (2017-2021), and completed my MSc at Heriot Watt’s campus in Stromness in Renewable Energy Development (2021-2022).

In council I have a particular interest in how local businesses and community groups can own and benefit from our economy, and the role they can play in the energy transition. Additionally, what opportunities there are for Orkney in the changing energy landscape and our collective need to decarbonise. Running across everything we do is the need to consider how we make it easier for young people who to stay in Orkney to do so, but equally how we can continue to make Orkney an exciting and vibrant place to be for our existing community, and those who come to join it from elsewhere.

As the chair of our Development & Infrastructure committee I look forward to working together with other councillors, officers, local stakeholders and businesses, and members of our community.

In my spare time you can find me either out and about with friends, or playing badminton. Likewise, I’m keenly interested in our local music and arts scene and am a regular attendee of the folk festival, as well as being on the board of the Pier Arts Centre.
