Dawn is Corporate Parenting Lead Officer for South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, she has a responsibility to ensure that the local authority and workforce understands and fulfils its duties to care experienced children and young people to help them to grow up loved, safe and respected, so that they reach their full potential. Dawn has spent the last thirty years working in both the statutory and voluntary sector with the care community supporting those with lived experience to ensure that their experiences shape policy and practice. Dawn currently manages a team of participation assistants who all have lived experience of Scotland’s care system and who are fueled with a desire to make positive changes for future generations. Dawn has been working with colleagues from the Promise Scotland to ‘do data differently’ to address the fact that when gathering data about a child’s journey through care, Scotland currently collects and assembles its data around ‘episodes’ of care rather than the entirety of a child’s care experience missing the point – and value – of experience entirely.
