Dr Brian Plastow is the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner. He was appointed in 2021 by HM Queen Elizabeth II on the nomination of the Scottish Parliament. His function is to support and promote the adoption of lawful, effective, and ethical practices in relation to the use of biometric data and technologies for policing and criminal justice purposes in Scotland. He has more than four decades experience of working in criminal justice and was formerly a senior police officer until retiring in 2013.
