Dimitra Gkatzia is an Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University whose work bridges data science, natural language generation (NLG), and human-robot interaction. She develops machine learning methods that turn complex, changing data—such as sensor readings or forecasts—into clear, useful language to support decision-making. Her research focuses on low-resource settings, where data is scarce, sensitive, or difficult to annotate, and on building systems that communicate in human-like, privacy-aware ways. She also explores how robots combine language, vision, and knowledge to work effectively with people. Dimitra leads the university’s NLP Group and co-leads Scotland’s SICSA AI Theme, fostering interdisciplinary AI collaboration.
