
Dr Hazel Murray is Chair of Cybersecurity at Munster Technological University. She is Head of Cybersecurity Research, Innovation and Education at Munster Technological University and holds a SALI Professorship. She has a PhD in Mathematics from Maynooth University, and her research interests include authentication security, quantum cryptography, and the costs versus benefits of cybersecurity policy.
Dr Murray leads the national Cyber Safety for Vulnerable People and Digital Resilience for Small Businesses projects, which were funded by Research Ireland’s National Challenge Fund. Her work has informed four national policy documents, established the CyberSafety.ie platform, and supported the development of a national cyber safety support system through Irish libraries. She is the Principal Investigator of the national Quantum Cloud Hub, funded by EU OCRE, which provides quantum computing infrastructure access and training to eight Irish universities and 13 research institutes.
Dr Murray is a Principal Investigator in the Rinn Quantum National Research Centre, a Funded Investigator with the CONNECT Research Centre, a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, Chair of the Ibec Cyber Taskforce, a board member of Cyber Ireland, and a founding member of the Irish chapter of Women4Cyber EU. Her research has been recognised as an EU Best Practice, an AWS Success Story, a Google Trust & Safety Award, the Cork Lifelong Learning Award, and a 2023 Women in STEM Award.
