
Dr Karl Warner is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School. Karl’s research and teaching expertise lies at the intersection of strategy, entrepreneurship and international business.
His work focuses on large-scale digital transformations undertaken by organisations across both private and public sectors, as they respond to economic, social, and technological developments.
His published research investigates how senior leadership teams build innovation capabilities to drive digital transformations. This research has earned prestigious accolades, including the CMCE Research Award for Technology and Consulting, and the 2019 Urwick Cup—presented by London’s Worshipful Company of Management Consultants in collaboration with the British Academy of Management.
In September 2023, Karl became the Principal Investigator for an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Made Smarter Innovation research project that seeks to develop a strategy that can attract the next generation of young talent into digital manufacturing careers by 2040. This initiative involves collaboration with policymakers, business leaders, educators, and young people to develop plausible future scenarios that address this critical need for the UK’s manufacturing sector.
Karl is the co-author of Strategic Management: 10th edition, published by SAGE, and has taught strategic management across undergraduate, postgraduate, and senior executive education levels. He also serves as the Programme Director for the ESRC-accredited MRes in Management programme, supervises doctoral researchers investigating digital transformation topics, and leads the MBA Strategic Management – a capstone course within the Adam Smith Business School.
Through his research, teaching, and collaborative projects, Karl continues to advance understanding and practice in strategic management for the digital era.
