Dr. Paul Connor

Dr Paul Connor received his PhD (Chemistry) from the University of Otago in 1998.  He has worked in the School of Chemistry at St Andrews from 1998 till the present and is now a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer. Paul’s research has covered Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Lithium Batteries, Solar collection, catalysis, as well as other general electrochemical projects.  He has worked on a variety of fuel cell projects, from high pressure reversible cells to the development of a novel rolled fuel cell geometry which led to starting a spin out company. Paul has also been involved in research projects to study fuels, from the purity of commercial hydrogen, to the production of fuels from biomass or by electrolysis of water and/or carbon dioxide. He has recently been working on both the synthesis and utilisation of ammonia, which include the testing of the systems and the safe use of the gas on land and for marine applications.  Paul’s research has resulted in two chapters in books, and he has over 50 published papers.  He is, or has been, a PI and CoI on multiple grants from RCUK and EU, worth well over £10 million.  His teaching covers sustainability of energy: “Fuels of the Future”, and on to advanced solid state chemistry.
