Dr Vishal Sharma is a deep-tech innovator and cybersecurity expert currently serving as the Director of Postgraduate Research in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.
He is also a Reader at the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) and Co-Director of the Smart Sustainability Hub at Momentum One Zero. Dr Sharma is the CEO of Sourcing Lens, a supply-chain traceability commercial entity currently progressing through the QUB spin-out process. He is also the co-founder of NI-Blockchain, a chain-agnostic blockchain ecosystem supporting the development and collaboration of blockchain innovation in Northern Ireland.
He holds a PhD from Thapar University, India. Before joining QUB, he held multiple roles in Singapore, including at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), established in collaboration with MIT (US), and in South Korea at SCH University and Soongsil University, where he contributed to industry–academia collaboration initiatives. He has contributed to research initiatives involving more than £32 million, with QUB’s share over £12 million in research funding as PI/Co-I.
As a recognised researcher and technology expert, Dr Sharma has authored more than 160 publications, including over 65 as lead author, delivered invited presentations at more than 110 international events, and contributed to global discussions on cybersecurity and emerging technologies. His work has received 10 best paper awards, QUB’s individual performance award, and a highly commended cybersecurity educator of the year, NI-Cyber Community award.
