
The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) is the central Bureau within An Garda Síochána that is tasked with the investigation of complex or significant cyber dependent crimes and with conducting forensic examination of specific digital storage media. This service is delivered by qualified computer forensic examiners and investigators trained in accordance with recognised best practice, supported by processes which ensure the integrity of the examination process from application to completion. The GNCCB provides a proactive approach, and response, to both cyber enabled and dependent crime, and the provision of Cyber Safety advice to the public and external stakeholders are also central activities of the Bureau.
The GNCCB, in furtherance of the objectives of An Garda Síochána as outlined in the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, also fulfils a cyber-security role. This includes preventing crime, bringing criminals to justice, including by detecting and investigating crime and protecting the security of the State
