Taking Stock: Housing to 2040

In August 2021, Holyrood ran an online event focused on Implementing Scotland’s Housing to 2040 strategy. Sessions looked at how we could meet the Scottish Government’s affordable housing target, reduce emissions within the sector, and priorities for the new Rented Sector Strategy.

Since then, we’ve seen the publication of the Heat in Buildings Strategy and views sought on the Rented Sector Strategy consultation paper.

One year on from the original event, we’ll brought stakeholders together to reflect on developments that have been made in these areas and consider what more needs to be done to ensure the Housing to 2040 Vision is achieved.

Delegates had the opportunity to hear about:

  • Progress and next steps towards meeting the target of 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, amid rising costs, labour shortages and competing investment priorities
  • Work being carried out to reduce emissions from existing homes
  • The latest on the Rented Sector Strategy and how it could lead to better outcomes for tenants
  • Action being taken to prevent homelessness

We were delighted to include a closing keynote address from Shona Robison MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government at the Scottish Government.
