Public Sector Cyber Security Northern Ireland 2024

Holyrood Connect’s 6th annual Public Sector Cyber Security Northern Ireland conference will return to Belfast on 29 February 2024.

With cyber attacks on the rise, it is important to acknowledge that keeping your organisation safe is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of IT colleagues.

Join us on 29 February to hear the latest developments around cyber security and explore hot topics within the sector, as well as having the opportunity to network with leading figures, peers, and industry representatives.

Through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive masterclasses, you will gain insight into:

  • The cyber security landscape
  • Innovation and disruption
  • Dealing with ransomware attacks
  • Emerging technologies and how they can benefit your organisation
  • The procurement challenge and how this can be overcome

You will also have the opportunity to pose questions to our expert speakers during the Question & Answer portions of the sessions.

The conference will feature an exhibition, where you can connect with industry experts and explore relevant solutions for your organisation.

Holyrood Connect

This event is free to attend for those working in the public and third sectors. Limited spaces are available for private sector attendees. If you wish to be added to the waiting list, please email eventsadmin@holyrood.com and we will notify you if a place becomes available.

In our opening plenary, speakers will discuss how organisations across the public sector in Northern Ireland measure against the UK Government's National Cyber Security Strategy with a vision to prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyber attacks, and the latest cyber security developments we need to be aware of across the UK as a whole.

*Please note that each masterclass will run twice

Organisations are increasingly pursuing security vendor consolidation. This class aims to view the contributing factors, how organisations can address these issues, and how they can simplify and transform their approach to security as a whole.

Ransomware attacks continue to evolve as threat actors refine their tactics to infiltrate systems, encrypt files, exfiltrate data, and demand ransom payments. In this masterclass, we will examine the latest ransomware attacks trends gleaned from our global view of the internet.
Understanding the nuances of these attacks is crucial for businesses to bolster their defence strategies. Ransomware poses a significant risk, with perpetrators motivated by financial gain and the disruption of critical assets, particularly impacting public sector organisations.
Attackers often begin by compromising non-critical assets before targeting high-value data, employing sophisticated techniques to evade detection.
Through a solid understanding of ransomware tactics and procedures, organisations can enhance their defence mechanisms and effectively safeguard data and applications.

Runecast works with several leading organisations across the UK Public Sector, offering a unique platform that mitigates business risk across security (automated compliance monitoring, vulnerability scanning) and operations (configuration drift analysis, risk assessment); removing barriers between InfoSec and Ops and delivering a comprehensive solution to maintain secure, compliance and highly available workloads.

In an era of work from anywhere, how do you implement consistent security across all users and devices in all locations while simplifying operations? Conor Byrne will show how this can be achieved with a Fortinet SASE Architecture.

This session will address the internal challenges and considerations for public sector organisations when it comes to procurement.

Having a cyber security solution which is fit for purpose is essential for keeping your data and customers secure. Our pannellists will delve into specific requirements we need to consider, such as supplier accreditation and internal budgets.

You have accidentally clicked on a rogue link in a legitimate-looking email. Before you know it, your whole organisation is locked out of systems, you can't access any records, and you have a hacker demanding that you pay thousands of pounds or risk compromising all company data. This scenario is more common than you think, but do you know what steps you need to take in the event of a ransomware attack?

With the creation of the Digital Security Hub in Manchester, UK, this northern region is fast becoming a hub for cyber start-ups as well as a collaboration focus between academia and large organisations. Stuart will share with you case studies from DiSH, as well as lessons learned from the initial years of operation.

Sandra will tell us about her journey to becoming the first female Assured Cyber Advisor in Northern Ireland.

Find out about Cyber Essentials, who is eligible, and how an assured advisor can support you to prevent most common types of attacks.

In February 2022, the Minister of State announced £18.9 million investment in Northern Ireland's Cyber Security industry. So, what new technologies have emerged since, how can they benefit public sector organisations, and how can the public and private sector work together to learn from each other and implement innovative solutions?

Unwind with peers and colleagues at our beer tasting, supported by Fortinet.

Hilden Brewery is Ireland’s oldest independent craft brewery.

The tasting will feature three distinct beers:

• Belfast Blonde - a light crisp pale ale which is easy to drink
• The Twisted Hop is a strong hoppy ale which packs more of a punch
• The Irish Stout is a full-bodied classic stout.
